RODA felt is used for polishing metal or polishing glass. It can either be used in precision finishing on a mounted spindle, on a wheel or as a pad or sheet. In this blog we detail the best way to polish using mounted felt and diamond compound.
Felt is mildly abrasive, making it ideal for buffing and polishing applications.
RODA felt, which we make here at Moleroda, is used for polishing metal or polishing glass. It can either be used in precision finishing on a mounted spindle, on a wheel or as a pad or sheet.
RODA felt is literally taken off the sheeps back and pressed! Therefore, it is a natural product and a completely biodegradable material!
Diamond polishing compound, is used for polishing metals with felt. Diamond is the sharpest and most natural material and its used for extra abrasion when working with felt.
It’s available in various grades ranging from coarse to fine, and is reguarly used by the mould tool industry
1. Prior to polishing make sure you have gone up to or finer with wet and dry or RODA NyWheels for best results.
2. Insert your mounted RODA felt into a polishing machine – e.g. eneksa/ micromotor.
3. Squeeze a pea sized amount of diamond compound onto your workpiece (when working with diamond compound usually start with a coarse grit like 20 microns and work up to a finer grit).
4. Then work the felt into the paste – a spray of lapping fluid will help to lubricate.
5. Keep the felt moving, wipe clean with solvent spray and a lint free polishing cloth.
6. Assess the finish and then move to a finer grade of diamond paste if required.
