How a Truck's Clutch Works- 1

How do you let your truck know that you want to change gears? You push the clutch of course. This means the clutch is the first stage of your truck's transmission and an indispensable part of the gear box.

Goto Cavwo to know more.

The clutch is important to your truck in many ways. First of all, the clutch transmits power from the engine to the gear box. It practically breaks the connection between the engine and the wheels.

This means, when you want to bring your truck to a stop (or slow down), you have to either downshift or press the clutch. Pressing the clutch allows you to keep the engine running, even when the truck is stationary.

Second, it allow you to interrupt the transmission when you want to move a gear from a stationary position (or change gears when you are moving). When you remove your foot off the clutch, the engine is connected to the wheels again.

The clutch that is mounted on a truck is called a friction clutch. This clutch is run by means of a fluid (called hydraulic clutch) or a cable. Clutches can differ in their torque capacities. Heavy duty trucks need more torque capacity than smaller trucks. It is because heavier trucks have higher momentum.

There are five major parts in a clutch system: flywheel, pressure plate, clutch disc or friction disc, throw out bearing and release system. In the next part of this article, we will discuss what each part of the clutch does. Tim's Truck Capital has a range of trucks on sale in Epsom, New Hampshire.
