"First, the spec sheets you can find on their site are a beautiful work of art in and of themselves. So incredible helpful. The folks at The Spring Store have helped me take all the guesswork out of my R&D project. If you have a specific spring need in mind you can also mail them a sample of your project and they will perfectly build a spring for you. Friendly staff! 11 out of 10. Highly recommend."

"Ashley, I wanted to thank you for jumping on our order and getting springs out to our company so quickly. We definitely have a need that is urgent and deadlines for project completion, and you are helping us achieve those deadlines. Kudos to you and your team, we really appreciate it! All The Best"
"Acxess Spring is great at providing engineering solutions when we develop new products. Acxess Spring meets their delivery deadlines and is honest about lead times. We are never left expecting product they cannot deliver. Great staff, easy and friendly to work with."
"Wanted to let you know that I finally had a chance to look at your spring order I received about 10 days ago and wanted to thank you for producing pieces exactly as designed, they look and work perfectly. I will be ordering again soon. Thank you."
"My experiences at Acxess Spring have been great. I've been working with Ashley she has been of great help. I always get my responses right back. I'm happy with the services at Acxess Spring."
A Coil Spring is a mechanical device made from coiled wire that stores and releases energy when compressed, extended, or twisted. It’s one of the most common types of springs and is used to absorb shock, maintain force between surfaces, or return components to their original position. Coil springs come in various types—like compression, extension, and torsion—depending on how they’re designed to function.

A coil spring stores and releases energy when it’s compressed or stretched, helping parts move smoothly and return to their original position. In a ballpoint pen, a compression spring pushes the pen tip out when you click it and retracts it when released. Despite its size, the spring plays a critical role in ensuring the mechanism works reliably, showing how even small springs can have a big impact in everyday devices.
There are different types of coil springs. You have the regular compression spring and other alternative open wound springs with variable diameters or variable pitch. Coil springs with variable diameters are: conical (tapered) springs, barrel (concave) springs, and hourglass (convex) shaped springs. Their shape depends on how the diameters are varied and these need to provide stability and their design reduces solid height. The different coil spring types are shown below.
In our stock spring catalog, you are able to find both stock compression springs and stock conical springs. You can buy these coil springs online by using our spring finder tool (which will help you find the ideal spring based on your design’s tolerances). Once you find your springs, you can add them to your cart and order them online as long as you meet our (minimum order $40). If you aren’t able to find your springs in stock, you can create a custom spring.
There are two ways to acquire custom springs. You can use the Spring Creator tool our spring design calculator to generate a design for any type of spring. If you need a simple compression spring design, you can use our Instant Spring Quote calculator (ISQ) to input the dimensions and get a quote at the same time. When you generate a design through Spring Creator it allows you to generate an instant quote by clicking on "Get an Instant Spring Quote of your spring design". You will receive a quote for quantity lots between the 25 piece minimum and 25,000 pieces. If you need more than 25,000 springs, you may request a quote at . If you have a custom coil spring design with variable diameters, variable pitch, or if ISQ was unable to generate a quote please contact us through .
In general, a well-made coil spring can last tens of thousands of cycles under normal conditions. For example, small coil springs in pens or electronics may last for several years with frequent use, while industrial or automotive springs can endure hundreds of thousands of cycles if properly maintained. Factors like excessive loads, corrosion, or poor installation can shorten a spring’s lifespan, so choosing the right material and finish is key to long-term performance.
The frequency with which coil springs need to be replaced depends on their application, usage conditions, and material quality. In everyday items like pens or small devices, springs are rarely replaced unless the product breaks. In high-stress environments—like automotive suspensions or industrial machinery—springs may need replacement every 5 to 10 years, or sooner if they show signs of sagging, corrosion, or cracking. Regular inspections and maintenance help catch early wear, but in general, coil springs don’t require frequent replacement unless they’re exposed to harsh conditions or extreme loads.
For small quantity orders (most commonly used to replace a spring or for samples and prototyping), you can use Spring Finder and find a similar spring in stock. If you are already in the production phase of your design, or are looking to purchase either a large production quantity or a large compression spring, you can go for a custom route.
